DUMBO

Brooklyn Bridge

New York, NY, United States

A stroll along this span is an only-in-New York experience that provides an up-close sense of the city's true grandeur. It's hardly the world-record-setting suspension bridge it was when finished in 1883, but it has retained an iconic status. For the best snapshot-ready, skyscraper-crammed views, hop the subway one stop into Brooklyn (A/C to High Street or F to York Street), then double back across the bridge's pedestrian (and bicycle) path toward Manhattan. Leave an hour for the stroll, including pauses for picture taking and the requisite oohs and aahs.

Tip: Sit down for delicious thin-crust pizza at Grimaldi's, under the bridge, or go upscale with an Old-Fashioned at the bar of The River Café.

Brooklyn Bridge pedestrian access in Manhattan: 4/6 to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, Lower Manhattan

Brooklyn Heights Promenade: Remsen Street to Orange Street at the East River, 2/3 to Clark Street, R to Court Street, Brooklyn Heights
