Omonia

Art Hotel, Athens

27 Marni St.
Athens, Greece
TEL: 30- 210-524-0501

The “art” in the hotel’s name may refer to the hotel’s proximity to the famed National Archaeological Museum or the paintings by Greek artists on the walls of the 30 rooms in this converted 1930 mansion. Rooms combine modern and Neoclassical (e.g., gilt-framed mirrors and contemporary bedding). The staff has mastered the art of personalized service—guests are treated to a welcome drink and opinionated advice (“if you want to waste your money, eat in Plaka”) and are given a small gift, such as a photo book of Greece, upon departure. Overall it’s a remarkable bargain, with extras you’d expect from a pricier place (free Internet, Korres products). The location, in Omonia Square, is slightly dodgy but convenient.

Rooms to Book: The most luxurious rooms, suites 401 and 406, have Jacuzzi tubs and large balconies with views of the city and are still reasonably priced at under 160 euros.

Insider Tip:

The breakfast buffet is unexceptional—if you crave quality sustenance in the a.m., go out.
