Iowa is about as soothing a state to crisscross as any refugee from modern life could hope for. But the promise of excellent antiquing, cozy B&B's, and rhubarb pie is what really entices visitors. If the purpose of travel is to refresh the soul, then nothing could be more appealing than a state whose landscapes, towns, and residents seem to embody a time before one's birth.
